Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 These are verses of the Wise Book. 2 A guidance and a mercy for the good, 3 Those who keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate and they are certain of the hereafter. 4 They follow the guidance of their Lord and they will have everlasting happiness. 5 And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Quran) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire). 6 And when our verses are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly as if he had not heard them, as if there was in his ears deafness. So give him tidings of a painful punishment. 7 (As for) those who believe and do good, they shall surely have gardens of bliss, 8 They shall abide in them forever. This is Allah's promise that shall come true. He is the Most Powerful, the Most Wise. 9 He created the skies without a support, as you can see, and placed stabilisers in the earth that you may dwell at ease as it revolves; and dispersed on it all varieties of creatures, and He sent down water from the skies and grew all kinds of splendid things upon it. 10 [All] this is God's creation: show Me, then, what others than He may have created! Nay, but the evildoers are obviously lost in error! 11
