The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
