The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
