Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
