The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
God the Almighty always says the truth.
