The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
