Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
