The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 About the Great News 2 About which they differ? 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 , A fitting reward. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 But they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) brought) completely. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
