And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)? 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship 92 Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves? 93 Then they will be thrown on their faces into the (Fire), They and the Ghawun (devils, and those who were in error). 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 And they will say while they dispute with one another, 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 nor any loving friend. 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
