The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 and when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 Indeed he used to rejoice in his home. 13 Truly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)! 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset; 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 (Muhammad), tell them that they will all suffer a painful torment 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
