The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
