Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 And ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
