A group of his people who disbelieved him and had called the Day of Judgment a lie and whom We had made prosperous in this life, said, "He is a mere mortal like you. He eats and drinks as you do. 33 And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers. 34 "Does he promise you that when you have died and have become dust and bones, you shall come out alive (resurrected)? 35 ۞ "Far, very far is that which you are promised. 36 There exists only our present life: we die and we live [but once], and shall never be raised up again. 37 He is but a man who hath fabricated against God a lie, and in him we are not going to be believers. 38 [Whereupon the prophet] would say: "O my Sustainer! Succour me against their accusation of lying!" 39 God said, "Before long they will be filled with regret." 40 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people. 41 Then, after them, We brought forth other generations. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time their messenger came to a people, they rejected him. So We destroyed them one after the other, and let them become mere tales. So away with the people who will not believe! 44 Then We sent Musa and his brother Haroun, with Our communications and a clear authority, 45 unto Pharaoh and his Council; but they waxed proud, and they were a lofty people, 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!" 47 So they denied them both [Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)] and became of those who were destroyed. 48 And certainly We gave Musa the Book that they may follow a right direction. 49 And We made the son of Maryam (Prophet Eisa) and his mother a sign, and We gave them shelter on a height, a place to stay and visible springs. 50
