Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the break of Day 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 Enter then My garden." 30
