He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And hath fear, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
