Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 enter My Paradise! 30
