Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We verily, have made it a Quran in Arabic, that you may be able to understand (its meanings and its admonitions). 3 and behold, it is in the Essence of the Book, with Us; sublime indeed, wise. 4 Shall We then take away from you the admonition because ye are a people extravagant? 5 How many Messengers did We send to the ancient people? 6 No Prophet came to them whom they did not mock. 7 And We destroyed greater than them in [striking] power, and the example of the former peoples has preceded. 8 And if you should ask them, Who created the heavens and the earth? they would most certainly say: The Mighty, the Knowing One, has created them; 9 He who appointed the earth to be a cradle for you, and appointed ways for you therein, that haply you may be guided; 10 And Who sent down water from the sky with a proper measure, so We revived a dead city with it; this is how you will be taken out. 11 And the One Who created all pairs, and made the ships and cattle as rides for you. 12 That you may settle yourselves upon their backs and then remember the favor of your Lord when you have settled upon them and say. "Exalted is He who has subjected this to us, and we could not have [otherwise] subdued it. 13 Hence, verily, it is unto Him that we must always turn." 14 And they assign to Him a part of His servants; man, to be sure, is clearly ungrateful. 15
