The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They have belied, and follow their own fancies. But, every issue will be settled! 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, 6 they will come out of their graves, their eyes cast down, hastening towards their Summoner as locusts rushing about. 7 Hastening to the inviter. The unbelievers shall say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 that ran on under Our Eyes, a recompense for him because he had been disbelieved. 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
