The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
