The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 Therefore turn away from them; on the day when the announcer will call towards a severe unknown matter – 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs. So the waters (of the heaven and the earth) met for a matter predestined. 12 And We carried Nooh upon a ship of wooden planks and nails. 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 And there belied the A'ad; so how dreadful have been My torment and warning! 18 We indeed sent towards them a severe windstorm, on a day the ill luck of which lasted upon them forever. 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
