The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
