they have only to wait for one single blast [of punishment]: it shall not be delayed by one whit. 15 They say: "Our Lord! hasten to us our sentence (even) before the Day of Account!" 16 Bear with what they say, and remember Our bondman David, lord of might, Lo! he was ever turning in repentance (toward Allah). 17 Indeed We subjected the hills to say the praise with him, at night and at morn. 18 And the birds gathered (in assemblies): all with him did turn (to Allah). 19 We made his kingdom strong, and bestowed upon him wisdom and sagacity in judgement. 20 ۞ And hath the tidings of the contending parties reached thee, when they walled the apartment? 21 When they reached David, he took fright, but they said, "Do not be afraid. We are two disputants, one of whom has wronged the other: judge between us fairly, do not be unjust, and guide us to the right path. 22 Indeed this, my brother, has ninety-nine ewes, and I have one ewe; so he said, 'Entrust her to me,' and he overpowered me in speech." 23 (David) said: "He is unjust in demanding your ewe to add to his (many) ewes. Many partners are surely -- unjust to one another, except those who believe and do the right; but there are only a few of them." It occurred to David that he was being tried by Us, and he begged his Lord to forgive him, and fell down in homage and repented. ۩ 24 So We forgave him that; and lo! he had access to Our presence and a happy journey's end. 25 (We said): 'David, We have made you a caliph in the earth. Judge with justice among people and do not yield to your own preference in case it should lead you from the Path of Allah. Surely, a terrible punishment awaits those who stray from the Path of Allah, because they forget the Day of Reckoning' 26
