The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the mount 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 In parchment spread open 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 And the roof exalted, 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
