The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount, 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 such as play at plunging, 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
