The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And accepts the best, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
