The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 Abasing exalting. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The Companions of the Right 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
