The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
