Whatever misfortune befalls you is of your own doing, God forgives much, 30 and you cannot elude Him on earth, and you will have none to protect you from God [in the life to come,] and none to bring you succour. 31 And among His Signs are the ships, in the sea, like mountains. 32 If He wills, He can calm the winds so the ships remain still on the sea surface; indeed in this are signs for every greatly enduring, grateful person. 33 Or He may make them founder for what they have earned, and (even then) pardon most; 34 And for those who dispute regarding Our signs to realise; that they do not have a place to escape to. 35 So whatever thing you are given, that is only a provision of this world's life, and what is with Allah is better and more lasting for those who believe and rely on their Lord. 36 (This reward will be for) those who keep away from major sins and indecency, who forgive when they are made angry, 37 Who obey the commands of their Lord and fulfil their devotional obligations, whose affairs are settled by mutual consultation, who spend of what We have given them, 38 And those who, when great wrong is done to them, defend themselves, 39 And the recompense of evil is punishment like it, but whoever forgives and amends, he shall have his reward from Allah; surely He does not love the unjust. 40 And whosoever harms after he has been harmed there is no blame upon them. 41 Only those who do injustice to people and commit rebellion on earth for no reason will be questioned. They will suffer a painful torment. 42 And verily, whosoever shows patience and forgives that would truly be from the things recommended by Allah. 43
