The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount 1 And by oath of a passage, written 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 And the House (Kaaba) that is visited, 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 on the Day when the skies are convulsed, 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
