Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
