The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
