The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 Yet if they see a sign (the unbelievers) turn their backs and say: 'This is but a continuation of sorcery' 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 hastening towards the Crier. Those who deny the truth will cry, "This is such a hard day!" 8 ۞ (Long) before them the nation of Noah belied. They belied Our worshiper saying: 'Mad' and he was reprimanded. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 Aad too belied. How then were My punishment and My warnings! 18 Verily, We sent against them a furious wind of harsh voice on a day of evil omen and continuous calamity. 19 Sweeping men away as though they were uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning. 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
