The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there is no denying its coming 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 facing one another. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
