The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
