He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 olives, dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
