The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
