Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
