۞ Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 They will say, "You used to come at us from the right." 28 The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers, 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 for, behold, whenever they were told, "There is no deity save God," they would glory in their arrogance 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world), 51 Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)? 52 "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" 53 He saith: Will ye look? 54 Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. 55 He will say, "By God! You almost brought me to ruin! 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)! 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 Other than our first death, and we shall not be punished? 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For the like of it should the workers work. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 which We have made as a torment for the unjust? 63 It is a tree that grows at the bottom of Hell. 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 Surely they found their fathers going astray, 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And indeed before them, most of the former people went astray. 71 and We sent among them warners; 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
