And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 When he fled on the laden ship, 140 And then they cast lots, and he was the one who lost; 141 Then a fish swallowed him, and he was blameworthy. 142 And had he not been one of those who glorify (Allah) 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ We cast him out of the fish unto dry land and he was sick. 145 and We caused a gourd tree to grow over him. 146 Then We sent him unto a hundred thousand, or more, 147 And they believed, so We gave them provision till a time. 148 AND NOW ask them to enlighten thee: Has thy Sustainer daughters, whereas they would have [only] sons? 149 Did We create the angels females, to which they were witnesses? 150 Behold, it is one of their fabrications that they say: 151 "God has begotten [a son]"; and verily, they are lying [too, when they say,] 152 (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 What, will you not remember? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful. 157 And they have invented a kinship between Him and the jinns, but the jinns know well that they have indeed to appear (before Him) (i.e. they will be brought for accounts). 158 Exalted is Allah above what they describe, 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 So, verily you (pagans) and those whom you worship (idols). 161 Can tempt anyone to rebel against Him. 162 Save him who will go to hell. 163 And there is none of us but has an assigned place, 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 And we are they who exalt (Allah)' 166 And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say; 167 "If only we had a tradition [to this effect] from our forebears, 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 Yet now (that it has come) they refuse to believe in it; but they will come to know soon. 170 Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us), 171 That they verily would be made triumphant. 172 and that Our army will be triumphant. 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 and watch them. They, too, will watch. 175 What! would they then hasten on Our chastisement? 176 So when it does descend in their courtyards – so what an evil morning it will be for those who were warned! 177 And turn thou aside from them for a season. 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Exaltations be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, above that they describe! 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182
