Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 in which you are now living 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 to an orphaned relative 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
