The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
