The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ AlifLaamRa. Those are the verses of the Book, the Clear Koran. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 “Why do you not bring angels to us, if you are truthful?” 7 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite. 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 So We make it enter the hearts of the sinners. 12 They do not believe in it, and indeed the example of the former people has already passed. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
