The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You will become three categories: 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and serried acacias, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And raised couches. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
