The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you his illustrious son! 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
Almighty God's Truth.
