۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 And detain them, for they will be questioned." 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 And they will turn to one another and question one another. 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence, 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 Not in the least. He has brought the truth and confirmed the other messengers. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,- 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 a goblet from a spring shall be passed round to them 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 He saith: Will ye look? 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 Then, are we not to die 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is that better by way of hospitality or the Zaqqum tree, 62 which We have made as a test for the wrongdoers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 its spathes are like the heads of satans 65 on it they shall feed, and with it they shall fill their bellies. 66 On top of it they shall have a brew of boiling water, 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 Surely they found their fathers going astray, 69 So they in their footsteps are rushing. 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not). 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
