The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the setting star, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
