By the moon, 32 And the night when it departs, 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 Warn the men. 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 about the sinners. 41 "What has caused you to enter Hell?" 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 we fed not the needy, 44 we indulged in vain arguments along with those who indulged in them; 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 What aileth them, therefore, that they are from the admonition turning away? 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Yes indeed, this is an advice. 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
