Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
