Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 A revelation from the most benevolent, ever-merciful, 2 A Book, whereof the verses are explained in detail;- a Qur'an in Arabic, for people who understand;- 3 A bearer of glad tidings and a warner. Yet most of them turn aside, so that they hearken not. 4 And they say: "Our hearts are under coverings (screened) from that to which you invite us, and in our ears is deafness, and between us and you is a screen, so work you (on your way); verily, we are working (on our way)." 5 (Muhammad), say, "I am a mere mortal like you. I have received a revelation that your Lord is the only One. So be up-right and obedient to Him and seek forgiveness from Him. Woe to the pagans, 6 Those who practise not regular Charity, and who even deny the Hereafter. 7 But those who believe and do the right, will have a continuing reward. 8
