Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 and the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 into My Paradise. 30
